It's still a bit chilly up here in Red Cliff, but the fishing has been hot. We are catching plenty of trout in high muddy water.

Girls Rock!

This family had a great day, especially when dad fell in.(I always carry extra waders).

She was very excited to catch this fish.

Of course I'd better show that guys can do it too.

But girls do it better.

This lady caught several, I couldn't keep up with here.

Mango's Ice Fishing Derby

Mango's annual ice derby was yesterday.

It was a big success.

We fried them up afterwards.

I set the hook on a big'en that snapped my rod in four pieces.

Mountain Lion Alert

I have long thought of Mountain Lions as majestic creatures. Too awesome of an animal to kill. Unfortunately the proximity and hunting tendencies of a few have led to ones demise. Three dogs, (Smalls, Sugar, and Mogul), have been killed by lions within the last month. During one of the attacks a Red Cliff resident shot one. My mixed feelings come from the fact that Sugar weighs about the same as my daughter. Yes the animals have rights, but so do the kids in town. Wildlife officials issued an alert Thursday and admitted that Mountain Lion populations have been on the rise. Unpublished rumors include the killing of a few goats in the neighboring town of Minturn, (sorry don't know the names). A lion got hit on highway 24, and another young lion picked the wrong fight with a couple fenced in pit bulls. There are a few more dogs around that townsfolk wouldn't mind if eaten, but I hope the situation gets resolved.

Ice Ice Baby

The thawing and freezing of the rivers have made for some interesting ice formations.

It's a winter wonderland out there.

Try to avoid snagging the ice.

We are averaging three fish a person.

A New Year

Starting the new year out right.

The Jones family from Turks and Caicos choose to stand on the ice instead. 

The kids loved it. They said they caught more fish with me than they do on the island. Funny going from a tropical Ocean to a frozen lake at 10,000 feet.

The nanny even loved it!
